Thursday morning, 1 October, a warm sunny Canberra morning...

Rally and circuit racing driver, Rick Bates played The Stig with the Tesla electric-powered roadster against an Audia R8 supercar. The event was held at the SDMA Hillclimb Complex at the Fairbairn Park Hillclimb complex on Sutton Road.

Times where 38.0 sec for the Tesla and 36.2 sec for the R8. Not a bad performance for the Tesla considering that the R8 (with V8) has almost twice the power rating (309kW compared to 185kW).

  • I was rooting for the Tesla

  • Dumbasses keep gas powered cars and see where the oil will run out oh yeah very soon and oh yeah no moré combustión cars and all of urs asses well be stuk with cars with other sources of energy why fuk up the planet. dumbasses only live the moment , the

People who care think about the future and its to have another source of energy other than oil..

  • @ksearles85 Did you hear for Wind,Solar and Hydro power????What a n00b!You can charge that car via 350$ solar panel retarded idiot and before say something first learn it because you sound like an idiot!

  • @jimmyhumuhumu1 To produce and run one of these trash cans .. creates an ass load of pollution, where the fuck do you think electricity comes from? ... so fuck the sound of no engine and btw, electric motors are not modern technology ... it's actually OLDER technology than the modern combustion engine ... so go get your strap and tie yourself to another tree, wanker.

  • @evinado1 Not at race speeds buddy, the 240 mile range is not calculated with the Tesla being driven in anger ... if you are doing a race and you "average" 80mph ... the best you'll get out of this thing is 160 miles ... if you "average" 100mph, you'll struggle to get 120 miles before it stops ... these figures are taken straight from the Tesla website itself.

  • @jugo85 You think this thing could beat a race tuned version of a car from any of those manufacturers? How do you "tune" an electric motor? The more juice it spits out .. the shorter the distance it can go, so really, racing? It's not like you can lighten a Tesla, most of the weight in it is from the battery, so any weight loss comes at a loss to the range, aero and suspension, sure, but power gains? No .. again, range loss. So where again, is the "potential" race car here? Oh, the Audi.

  • @ksearles85 hahaha.. Isn't SPEED the whole point of racing? Are Bugatti, Ferrari, Porsche (among others) the "big dogs" because of the sound? The best of the best are the ones who perform better and get to the finish line FIRST. Otherwise why in the world would engineers bust their heads making their cars FASTER than all the others? An engine can sound like the latest JB single for all engineers care as long as it makes the others bite the dust....

  • I could give a fuck what anyone thinks about the future of motoring ... if you can sit there and "like" the sound of a fucking swarm of bees going around a track vs. the beautifully tuned note of an R8, you're a fucking moron and don't deserve to drive a car ... we came this far to be at the mercy of our fucking power outlets? Get fucked, this isn't the future of anything .. it's a speed hump.
