A short video, set to music, in memory of those members of HM Armed Forces murdered by Irish Terrorists.

The sacrifice of Sergeant Michael G. Willets, 27, 3 Para.

On the evening of the 25th May 1971 an IRA terrorist entered the reception hall of Springfield Road Police station in Belfast. He carried a suitcase from which a smoking fuse protruded, dumping the case on the floor he fled out-side, inside the room were a man a woman and two children and several police officers. One of the police officers raised the alarm then began organising an evacuation of the hall through the reception office.

Sgt Willetts was on duty in the inner hall, on hearing the alarm he sent an NCO to the first floor to warn those above and hastened himself to the door towards which the police officer was thrusting those in the reception hall and office.

He held the door open while all passed safely through and then stood in the doorway shielding those taking cover.

In the next moment the bomb exploded with terrible force. Sgt Willetts was mortally wounded. His duty did not require him to enter the threatened area. All those people who were approaching the door from the far side agreed that if they had had to check to open the door, They would have perished.

Sgt Willetts waited, placing his body as a screen to shelter them.

By this act of bravery, he risked and lost his life for those of the adults and children.

Sgt Michael Willetts was awarded the George Cross (Posthumous).

Republicans jeered when the ambulance arrived, but Willets had saved Catholic civilians and children. The IRA had no such respect for life.

A true British hero.

  • @SuperRandomer1994 I think you will find that it was Springfield Road RUC Station.

  • i agree to the fuck the IRA and RULE Brittania,

  • @st0kecity1 he didnt get a vc

  • This is such a sad song. But whoever wrote this did an amazing job.

I wonder how Britain was able to keep troops in Northern Ireland for almost 30 years without going bankrupt. The NI conflict must've cost Britain billions of pounds.

  • Ex RAF Regiment myself, having served in Northern Ireland, this song epitomises the whole truth of what we believed was the truth. We served to protect the innocent that was the goal, yet we were called scum throughout. For the love our nation! Yes, this song means so much to me. Thank you for putting this on here. may God bless and keep you safe!

    Petition epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/3747

Next year the Queens Diamond Jubilee Medal will be presented to service personnel, emergency service personnel and prison officers with more than five years service. Theres no plans to award the medal to veterans, many of whom have given a lot more than five years service during the reign of Her Majesty.

This petition asks that the medal should also be awarded to veterans who served Her Majesty during her 60 years

  • god bless our country !

  • As a British soldier with a mother from the South of Ireland, I find it sad that people died on both sides. But realise this. The Irish are welcome in any country in the world that I can think of and most people love them. The British are, not always, but more often than not, hated in the majority of countries. There must be a good reason for that! The IRA kill one British soldier and they are scum. Tony Blair kills up to 30,000 Iraq civilians and he is a hero? No wonder I'm confused!

  • The IRA were gangsters. Pure and simple. They raised funds by doorknocking Catholic areas, late at night. If the (often poor) residents did not give, petrol would be poured through the letterboxes in their front doors, and a lighted match would follow. Catholic neighbourhoods in Belfast could easily be recognised, as the letterboxes were all boarded over. The IRA terrorised the very people they said they were fighting for. There is no lower form of life. Gutless, worthless filth.

  • never understood why my dad would grunt when i asked him about the uvf and Ireland.some things he will talk to his grave ... no mater what they tell me at school or college ...when im called i will fight and do my duty for the crown... i will always remember the tears that this song brought to him due to them dirty fennien bastereds NO SURRENDER G.S.T.Q.
