College Football Saturday Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles at Rice Owls (-3) (3PM ET) ()

Southern Mississippi is coming off 3 straight losses and all at home. There was a coaching change at Southern Mississippi after last season that had many scratching their heads as Jeff Bower was let go. Under Bower Southern Miss had 14 straight winning seasons and made bowl games in 9 of the past 10 seasons. Under first year coach Larry Fedora we could see both trends take a hit in season 1 as the teams its at 2-4. Rice is coming off the bye and waiting for Southern Miss who mustered just 7 points at home to Boise St last week. Rices offense is very potent and can put up points in the passing game behind quarterback Chase Clement. Rice is averaging well over 300 yards per game through the air and averaged 10 yards per pass completion in a road effort at Texas. Tulsa is far and away the class of Conference USA so I dont put much stock in that game on the road to handicap this one. Rice is at home rested after their bye against a first year coach who is struggling to replace a coach who hasnt had a year less than .500 in 14 seasons. Take Rice 3.
