According to Wikipedia, philosopher John Morreall theorizes that human laughter may have its biological origins as a kind of shared expression of relief at the passing of danger. When we realize that the "surprise" wasn't dangerous, we eventually laugh with relief. What do you think?
In this scenario, the laughter after a dangerous moment would fall under Relief thoery of Humour. this is a type of emotional relief valve that vents the unessesary emotion, made inadequate by circumstance, and vented by laughter. this was a parapharse in a paper of Morrealls i read awhile ago. the other two main theories of huomour are Superiority theory (think Nelson from the Simpsons) and Incongruity theory (think Family Guy).
