According to Wikipedia, philosopher John Morreall theorizes that human laughter may have its biological origins as a kind of shared expression of relief at the passing of danger. When we realize that the "surprise" wasn't dangerous, we eventually laugh with relief. What do you think?

  • In this scenario, the laughter after a dangerous moment would fall under Relief thoery of Humour. this is a type of emotional relief valve that vents the unessesary emotion, made inadequate by circumstance, and vented by laughter. this was a parapharse in a paper of Morrealls i read awhile ago. the other two main theories of huomour are Superiority theory (think Nelson from the Simpsons) and Incongruity theory (think Family Guy).
