InJanuary 1956, "Song of Indomitable Dignity" (Ifu Do Do No Uta) was first announced as a song of Soka Gakkai's Kyoto district at its kick-off meeting, In the fall of 1958, SGI President Ikeda, then youth division chief of staff, heard the song and said, "This is a really good song. Let's make it a Soka Gakkai song." Before long, this song came to be widely sung among the members.
