Everything you see in the video is absolutely true, he has no brakes at all and never touches the handlebar, he removed the handlebar after that performance because some people couldn't believe he never touched it...to answer to another comment, he climbed the Stelvio (and other Mountains) many times with his bycicle in the same way, up and down...I saw him live and it's amazing, in Italy is considered a real phenomen, take a look to his other videos and trust me, it's all true!!!!
I actually know the guy. He uses tyre scuff (as well as the fact he's so upright, body in the airflow ) as a braking method. He used to be sponsored by Alan bicycles / Alfa BikeSport - I was for some years their UK agent & that's how I met him ... he is a nutter, it's true.
@hillsview455 You ride bikes a lot? You must know all about pro bikes back in the 70s and 80s then bro. I'm 100% with you dawg that they put coaster brakes on pro bikes. They probably do it now too. Riding no hands is so easy, especially down a huge hill, that rocking your feet back and forth for stability is totally useless, so he's only doing it to use the coaster brake he totally has on there. He's putting his foot against his rear wheel for fun. Yeah. That's what's happening.
before you call someone an idiot you should probably have some idea of what you are talking about. Gregh825 is right he's using a tire scuff to slow down but it is pretty neat anyway.
If you watch carefully, you can see him use the heels of his feet against the back tire to slow him down which seems pretty difficult and dangerous. Pretty amazing, though.
He's using a hub at the rear wheel with a foot brake idiots otherwise he'll fall on that first switch back. Look at the position of his legs he's braking. If you're not familiar with bikes that have foot brakes, go to your local toysrus childrens bike section. Most of the kids bikes are equip with foot brakes.
@jimd3500 but its at least a 15 minute descent at racing pace, no? so im sure that was close to 30 minutes of video edited down to 3 minutes of actual riding. i think its legit.
@mooo90 dont think so mate!!!! You try cycling down Stelvio no hands!!!!
