Only with his Zaku II costum, while Amuro was still very inexperienced. The Gelgoog should performance wise be equal or superior to the RX 78-2. But, if Char's Zaku would indeed be more powerfull, he would have slaughtered Amuro just like any other pilot he would encounter. Unfortunately for him, Amuro was constantly challenged by superior ace's and weapons, and this hardship revealed his latent newtype capabilities in an earlier stage.

Char and Amuro are the reason why UC will always be superior to any Gundam series. I remember how excited I was every time Amuro popped up in Zeta, and cheered every time Quattro acted like bad-ass Char!

Char defiantly my favorite anime character. Always tormented by his past, he fights for what he believes in no matter his burden.
