On Friday Dec 18 2009 Vancouvers HIV/AIDS Community Rallied at the VAG to show their opposition of Aids Funding Cut Backs The Ministry of Health announced on World AIDS Day, Aids Funding Cuts to Community Based Health Organizations (CBHOs), managed through Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH). Each affected CBHO is a key provider of direct HIV/AIDS support services and programs in the Lower Mainland. Spencer Herbert: BCNDP MLA Vancouver West End & BCPWAs Vice Chair Ken Buchanan dropped by for a little chat with us, He stressed that funding CBHOs saves lives, saves money, these CBHOs prevent new cases of HIV in our province and educate those most at risk of becoming infected , He tells us how the BC Liberals & Health Authoritys knew of the budget crisis way before our last election in May of this year
The BC Liberals promised us they would protect health care funding in this past election and also lied about the deficit and said they would not bring in the HST ( Harmonized Sales Tax ) They Lied to us !
CBHOs provide HIV/AIDS services, programs and public education not offered by any government health agency, explained David Swan, Executive Director, AIDS Vancouver. By choosing to shift further financial burden on CBHOs during World AIDS Day, the Ministry of Health has added particular insult to injury for those who take their place on the frontlines in the war against HIV/AIDS.
These Public Health Care Cuts will be devastating; everyone will feel the strain.
CHBOs who are paying for these 2010 Olympics include: AIDS Vancouver, Health Initiative for Men (HIM), Dr. Peter Centre, YouthCO AIDS Society and VNHS. As HIV/AIDS services from these VCH-funded CBHOs decrease, demands on other related agencies will rise.
VNHS supports the First Nations community; YouthCO provides support and education to youth with HIV; Dr. Peter Centre is focused on HIV health and nursing care; AIDS Vancouver provides individual case management, prevention and education programs, support services and a community grocery program
Who knew Sick Men, Women & Children with Aids would be paying for the 2010 Olympics ? Well They are! Its Just wrong my friends! Heartless!

Here here Colt!!
Totally!
IT is always short gain but in the end we all pay for such brainless political acts like the cutting & gutting healthcare services to those who need it the most.
WHAT A SHAME!
Their corporate cronies prosper and the needy go without.
This current - 2009/10 privincial liberal government is rife with crooked back room deals, cronyism and elitsm. THe system is so broken and they are so paid off...much like our crap media - like global/ctv.

People in BC have short memories. In 1985, then Health Minister Peter Dueck wanted all PHAs quarantined and AZT not covered. BCPWA was born to fight for care, treatment and support. Funding for ASOs mostly is federal money but BC is very fortunate to have HIV drugs covered by Pharmacare. I am alive 27 years later thanks to HAART. If 1 HIV infection costs $250,000 and saves one life, then the fight must go on!
