The Capoeira Pass is a VERY good option when someone whips you up. This is one variation on this pass (there are a few). Special thanks to Jason Weare for bringing this one back to the Submissions 101 gym!

  • If you watch Eddie call the Garcia, Popovitch match he says "Garcia just used the pass I call the capoeira pass, I dont know what he calls it but thats what I call it." He just gives things names to help his students remember them. Doesnt claim to invent the move.

  • BINGO!!!

  • why go for side control would'nt it be easier to just lock in the guillotine while its there.

  • You don't have the leverage from this position. This is for control not submission.

  • but what do u after u get him into the side control position?

  • Twister, Omoplata (around the world), americana, kimura, arm bar, guillotine...search our data base for all these moves from side control

Face a fast scrambler and you'll find out. It's just more control, other wise he can slip out, and you lose some of your control. it also helps with passing that half guard since his leg can't move to keep gripping.

  • Great idea! Grazie!

  • okay... ari... so i learned this pass from u guys like a month ago. let me tell you. it works AMAZING.

BUT, i realized i never ever feed my left hand under his leg after i hook his neck, yet 90 percent of the times i escape and get mount. I dont think its that necessary and it just drains me.. whats the risk of not grabbing that leg?

  • How would you prevent the guy in the bottom from releasing the lock and bridging as you pass? you have no support if he tries to bridge towards his left shoulder specially since you are already having some momentum towards there.

  • good stuff

  • I'm a Padawan....i'm learning, i'd take me before i really make you guys great.......al my wins...i'll give these dudes credit.....

  • just like fatguy said. Eddie gives those types of names so people remember them. its really easy to remember zombie, new york, etc. he never claims to invent them. pick up one of his books(mastering the rubber guard) he gives full credit.. just like the twister, he says that its a wrestling move, with a slight variation

  • ive been doing jiu jitsu for about 2 years and never seen anything like this
