They'd kill anyone for anyone's money. They're a clan of lawyers after all. I think they were just as brutal as the MacDonalds or any other clan, but the problem was they were cold and calculating about what they did. The MacDonalds would just raid a town, kill what they found and loot it. The Campbells were cold. I remember hearing about them tying MacDonald women and children together and throwing them off a cliff after their fortress had surrendered.
@Steelsixtysix u saw "Nazi Collaborators" did ya? dont be so small and superficial about history. do you drive a ford? do you know the majority of americans pre 12/7 were anti intervention and pro germany? wise up you child.
@Giorgio3959 yes, you were up against a people who fuaght you for 800 yrs.it must also be taken into consideration that those who were part of this reg are and were a part of a villified unit. as far as Ireland is concerned, cut your losses.
@drillsargentadog Saying that, however, there was some terrible behaviour by British forces in Northern Ireland, including the Black Watch. But it must be taken into consideration what we were up against - as in all conflicts.
@drillsargentadog Yes I do apologise. Reading your comment again I can see that you meant the Campbells. Regarding my comments on relishing our task in Northern Ireland, I can only speak from my experience which was that most of my comrades were very much pro the Loyalist cause and anti- Republican. Also a lot of young men join Regiments such as The Black Watch or the Paras, because they want to be part of an 'elite' fighting force with a sometimes fearsome reputation. (cont)
Disgrace to Scotland. We haven't all forgotten the Irish are our brothers.
