In 1962, John Glenn became the first American to orbit Earth. An Atlas launch vehicle propelled a Mercury spacecraft into orbit in the Friendship 7 mission. This historic video includes coverage from Cape Canaveral. Many NASA Centers contributed to the Mercury program, including Langley Research Center where Glenn also frequently trained.
