Re: removing my own original comment - I tried to show that "freedom of speech" is more complex than simply allowing people to express their thoughts. Arguably your comment manipulated me into removing my own comment - a pretty shallow example but still got your attention :)

I support freedom of speech and removing comments does skew the discussion, but I haven't disconnected these people from the internet - They can comment elsewhere.

I've been thinking about Fontkiller's reply, but this reply I can answer immediately : )

Trash talking hurts my side, not my opponent's. I haven't done it, and don't see why I would.

For a moral-based argument of this sort, I'd frequently settle for making my opponent look bad for holding his idea, IF I'm more concerned in changing other people's minds than his. To use an extreme example, one usually settles for making racists look bad, rather than actually debunking their points.

The point of debate is not to make the other person look bad, it is meant to refute their point using your own point. :/ Trash talking has nothing to do with discussion and you shouldn't use it as an excuse.
