Sometimes unschooling can fail. Guess what...the public school system fails too. There is nothing foolproof in this world as far as education goes. But when a child fails at public school they are left with no tools, no faith in education, and are told by society that they are worthless. An unschooler has the tools to teach themselves and from my own personal experience and the experiences of my unschooling friends, I think there's a pretty high success rate there.

  • According to the National High School Center - Over the last 15 years, 15 million students have graduated from high school reading at

below the basic level (2009). I should do some research before I make another video so I can really sound like I know what I'm talking about instead of just making vague statements. So here you go; here's a concrete statement. 15 million is pretty darn concrete.

  • Hopefully you have time to answer this question with a video. A worry is often about unschoolers getting a well-rounded education, at some point you decided to take algebra not because of interest, but rather an awareness that some level of skill would be needed, or expected when/if you decided to pursue college.

How did you develop this awareness of future public expectation? What role did your parents have in bringing things to your attention? What memories do you have of thinking ahead?
