2LT William J. McGowan Memorial Service at Moon-Sur-Elle, Normandy, France. Bill was knocked down by FLAK on D-Day (6 June 1944). His last act was to pilot his crippled P-47 away from a chateau, saving the family therein.

  • Rest in peace, hero! Thank you for your sacrifice for all of us! With sincere best wishes to Lt. McGowan's family and friends. My dad also gave his life in the skies of Normandy, flying his P-47 Thunderbolt with the 404th Squadron, 371st Fighter Group, 9th US Air Force. There were so many who gave their all! God bless our soldiers!
