You do realize that component cables record with much better resolutions than Fraps right?

do you really need the splitter because you can see wat u are recording on the recording program so you dont need the spliter

I noticed I'm able to record vid and audio with no problems when I tried a different game. my issue is with battlefield 3. for some reason its only recording video only

Btw man.. Not sure what is going on but I got the same exact setup as you and mine definitely still says hdcp. Won't even let me play the video coming from the ps3..

@RejectedManiac it might be because of the way your monitor is hooked up , change it to vga or vice versa to dvi.

Great vid and very helpful. I followed your links and bought the exact same setup. when I'm on Aver and I see the PS3 on the computer screen I can hear audio fine and all is well. Fraps records everyting great but I have no audio in the fraps videos. any ideas? thx!

@rarjr22877 , Make sure Fraps is set to record Windows sounds.
