What is wrong with our "underlying Principles"?
Most of your points are related to our dependence on foreign oil. Tied to our dependence are: our foreign policy; our trade deficit; our budget deficit, and therefore how much money we can spend on programs for the people; and pollution.
If a person is truly interested in energy independence then they would be interested in Miniature Nuclear Reactors.
