Beside the unbelievable pain that the shoa brought to the jewish people, its a shame that the rich cultural influence from the jewish community to the german society was stopped by that.
The output by the jewish community in culture and science was immense.
Germany lost much more then its innocence and the war.
Its so sad.

My mother, who spoke German, was able to understand someone speaking Yiddish also. My mother told me a story of how when they first came to the US my grandmother couldn't believe how many people spoke "awful" German until they found out it was in fact Yiddish! LOL But my poor father could not understand German! Maybe a few words? His parents spoke Yiddish. I don't remember if my father was actually able to speak Yiddish.

ok but why i understand this perfectly and the grammar is not just very simular but identical to modern day german with a few exceptions everyone who speaks german good enough understands yiddish!! to me its just a german dialect like bavarian, silesian, swabian ect...its to close to be a own language!
