For the next four weeks Demi and Joe were inseparable. They literally did everything together. They ate together, they slept together, they went to school together, they showered together, they even brushed their teeth together. Selena called them annoyingly clingy. But Demi and Joe were simply falling in love. They continued to keep it a secret from Joe's parents, in fear that they wouldn't let them be together, or worse, they'd make her leave. "Demi?" Joe's voice woke Demi from her light slumber. She rolled over, covering her naked body with Joe's cotton sheets.
"Yes?" She asked, opening her eyes slightly.
"Why are you so beautiful? He asked, pressing his lips to her adorable, freckled nose.
"Good genes." She said, rolling back over. Joe chuckled at her and cuddled up against her.
"I love you." He whispered into her ear, feeling her soft black hair against his face. She whipped herself around.
"You do?" She questioned. He nodded furiously like a little boy.
"No one has ever told me that before." She said.
"Well I just did, and I meant it." Joe kissed her lips softly. "You don't have--"
"I love you too." She stopped him, deepening their kiss.
For the next few weeks Joe and Demi talked about telling his parents, and eventually they finally got the courage to.
"What's going on sweetie?" Joe's mother asked Demi, who decided it would be best for her to tell his mother alone.
"I um, I need to tell you something. And I really hope this doesn't ruin everything. I love and I am so grateful for you taking me in as your foster child. And I feel like I've betrayed you--"
"Aw, hun you're all worked up. Just tell me what's going on." Mrs. Jonas said, placing a hand comfortingly on Demi's shoulder.
"Joe and I are together." She blurted out. Mrs. Jonas dropped her hand from Demi's shoulder and sighed.
"Well, I knew it was bound to happen. A pretty girl like you, and I've never seen him act so flirty and boyish." Mrs. Jonas told her.
"I'm so sorry. I understand if you need to let me go back to the center or--"
"Oh, Demi. I would never let you do that. We just need to set some ground rules since you two are living under the same roof."
"Of course!" Demi said in relief.
Two weeks later.
Demi threw the plastic drugstore bag she was carrying into her bathroom sink angrily and walked back and forth nervously around her bedroom. She finally gained the courage to reenter her bathroom. Demi ripped open the box inside and after five minutes, she waited. And after an hour she entered her boyfriend's bedroom, ready to tell him something that would change his life forever, but then he did something that stopped this from happening. He too told her something that he believed would change his life forever, for the better. He had gotten into his dream university on a full ride scholarship. Demi pretended she never had anything to tell him, congratulated him with a kiss and then two hours later she threw two full backpacks out her bedroom window before climbing out of it, saying goodbye to her life there with the Jonas'.
