@ChronicallyConfused yea its the easiest way i think.. and i was front row watching him live so i learned his tricks lol.. close to you is A A B C B A G A B D E D C.. thats the little riff he plays, ill let you figure out the timing.. just stick around the open chords, learn the riff then add in some rhythm strums.. sounds wicked cool! lol

@jeffclarkemusic Oh I see--on second viewing I notice the fingering isn't exactly the same it would be as in standard tuning.

He plays Close to You in standard?? That's awesome. I gotta find some tabs on that somewhere

@ChronicallyConfused this is open c.. can tell by the 5th chords (power chords) he plays on the 5th string in message in a bottle.. the only guitar he plays in standard is his 6's, electric and acoustic (close to you/good excuse) his 12 strings are open c BOTH new and old lol.. and his lapsteel he dabbles in the open g (one way road) and an open b (fire in the sky)..

pretty sure cause thats how i play them :P

@tjglasson Yes I know, but I don't believe that's his open c guitar. His open c guitar is worn on the body from Ocean. And I'm pretty sure he's got one 12 string tuned in standard tuning, or drop d.

haha that was awesome--John Butler playing Nirvana :) He can play such complexities as Ocean or Under an Indian Sky, but he's unsure of Nirvana (by the way, I know it's not his song, so he won't know it by heart)
