Eric vs. Ali Shocking Finish! Elite Men Race #3 Utah Cyclocross

Described by MTB race news as "one of the biggest upset victories in Utah cyclocross history", this Epic Battle between two of the best Cyclocross riders in the US was on from the start. With Utah's reigning CX champ Bart Gillespie riding in Brazil, the race was wide open as the depth of top riders racing in the Utah series is very high. In short order, State Champ Eric Rasmussen, USGP 35+ leader Ali Goulet & top contender Reed Wycoff were on a mission and ran away from the pack and went back and forth in leading the race. Reed melted away with the heat after a few laps so it was the Eric vs. Ali show. One of the most impressive aspects was Ali taking an endo down Mount Heber a few laps in yet was back in the lead by the time the two reached the start/finish for the next lap, and most importantly being in a strong position to win at the end despite the crash. Well, don't want to spoil what happened in case you read this first. Also, another strong showing by Thomas Bender to take 3rd from a very impressive wolfpack of riders who were neck and neck most of the race. Bender has been making a habit of getting in sprints at the end and winning them.
