Unseen/Seen: The Mapping of Joy and Pain by artist Rebecca Krinke challenges conventional ways of seeing the Twin Cities of Minneapolis-St. Paul. The project created the setting and the opportunity for the public to map where in the Twin Cities they have experienced joy and pain. The project was a temporary work of outdoor public art that traveled to public parks and the Walker Art Center in the summer of 2010. Visitors were invited to map places where they have felt joy in gold and pain in dark gray.

Using the setting/map is free and open to everyone, and participating in mapping was entirely voluntary. Members of the project team will be on hand in each location to talk with anyone interested about the project and invite them to add their experiences to the map.

Rebecca Krinke was assisted by her student team of Jamuna Golden, Michael Dorfman, and David Kerber.

This project was supported by the University of Minnesota's Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program.
