Thank you so very much..this is one of my favorite violin concertos--I collect different violinists recordings and I surely want to get a copy of this CD! This has been SO interesting, being allowed a glimpse into the original ideas of the composer--I honestly prefer the "finished" product as it is much more cohesive, but this has some fabulous things that were cut..what a master craftsman Sibelius was!

The aim of the producer von Bahr has been natural balance and sound as it should be. It's the solo spot miking that's unnatural!

@ipmoic ok, fair enough, there i agree with you, sorry for misunderstanding what you said

@etonrocks You misunderstand my comment. I LOVE how Kavakos plays. It's the recording engineer that has produced a lousy final product. Church setting or not, the "presence: of the violinist could have been far better presented with proper miking.

you may not like his stage presnce but i'd love to see you play any better..

JUST THANK YOU!!!\
for this version!!!!\

actually because in that time nobody couldn't play it on necessary level to make sibelius and critics happy and satisfied
-
@themusicdr i believe the descendants of sibelius only allowed one recording and have not released the manuscript for publication

has only kavakos played this and if so how come no-one else has done so
Just a horrible recording with Kavakos sounding like he's offstage! I don't agree that this is how it normally sounds in a "live" performance. His lack of "presence" on this recording is very disturbing.
I also prefer the tempo he chooses in his Verbier performance--here on YouTube-- A bit livelier.
However, I am in love with this original concept. A totally different piece. Sweeter, more mood shifts and, frankly, more like what I expect from Sibelius and his monumental symphonies.

@ipmoic Well, it was recorded in a church, so I'm sure the acoustics aren't ideal.
