Dedicated to Our Dog Bowie (3/15/97- 7/22/10)

The month of July proved to be quite difficult for my family and I. Most of our days were spent at home with the usual lighthearted smiles in the morning and encouraging looks from our few pets. However there was a slight sadness in the air as I think we all new the time for one of our beloved friends was about to part, and this would be Bowie, the big white dog with different colored eyes. My daughter rescued Bowie from a shelter where he was just hours away from being euthanized and I'll never forget the first time I met him. Bowie could outrun most dogs in play and had moves that football coaches would have died for. My wife and I had two other dogs at the time of similar ages and they both did not know what to think of this new family member with such a contagious spirit for playing like none others they had ever met. Most of Bowie's life was spent with my daughter and her friends. My daughter took care of Bowie like he was family and took him almost every she went - his only sad moments were when he was left alone so she could go to work. A little over 4 years ago after my daughter had her first child Bowie began having severe separation anxiety attacks and there was talk of having him put to sleep. My wife Noy would have nothing of it and thought the best solution would be for us to take him to live with us. We were at liberty to afford him this second chance and he soon found his way into our hearts. We took Bowie on road trips, flea markets and long hikes in the desert - Bowie was one of the best dogs I have ever walked, you could just close your eyes and never miss a stride while he was glued to your side. The last year was extremely difficult with Bowie as he never wanted to be left alone and there were indeed moments where my daughter and I thought it was time to let him go, but my wife Noy would not hear of it. Noy finally picked the moment that I thought was very appropriate, especially considering his other physical ailments, she chose the 10th anniversary of my mothers death to let him go. Rest in peace now Bowie and hurry off to play with Jai-yen and Shinny again, and we'll meet up again when our time comes. Love, Mark, Noy, Lynn, Ben, Trevor, Lena, Spike and Fluffy and all the others.

Our sincerest and deepest gratitudes to Rick "bios36" and his wonderful family, Alice, Luke, Matie and Moppy, thank you all for helping us send Bowie off in such beautiful and dignified way. Much love and respect from all of us, Mark and Noy

A very special thank you to my longtime and dear friend Stevi for taking the time to grace this song with her lovely voice, I will forever be grateful. Our years spent playing down at Joe's cafe Stevi made this journey of ours so much more special and I long for the days when we can play again. We love you Stevi and Wayne. Mark and Noy

My heart definitely is thankful to all of our friends and animals, past and present that have made and continue to make this journey very very dear to both of us, you know who you are. Much love, Mark and Noy

I know I've sung these words before, and maybe they are nothing more than just a bunch of pipe dreams lyrically speaking, but honestly in my heart I truly feel that quite possibly one day these words will sing true and the heroes will be you...

(verse)
we'll no longer lust for silver
no longer will we die for gold
diamonds will be stars
that shine in the night
when all we need is love

(verse)
we'll no longer threaten our neighbors
with sanctions or pre-emptive wars
faith will bring hope
and hope will bring faith
when all we need is love

(chorus)
when all we need is love sweet love
when all we need is love
we'll find new ways to brighten our days
when all we need is love

(guitar solo)

(verse)
no longer will we fight any battles
no longer will we need any wars
our hearts will be free
and our souls will be cleansed
when all we need is love

(repeat chorus)

  • What a great song.....beautiful music and lyrics.

A fantastic tribute to Bowie ~~Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ~~

  • @Maysey1 Thanks Mark. I'm smiling at your comment about you and your wife. You all seem very devoted, and I love seeing that. Have a great week, my friend. Gwen

  • I'm glad you got another pet Gwen, they never take the place of the ones before, but they always seem to know how to make us feel better - you'll know when it's time to get another dog and I commend you for going with the rescues, all of ours have been rescues, including my wife and I...LOL! Always a pleasure hearing from you Gwen. Mark

  • @Maysey1 Thank you Mark for your very kind message. I adopted a cat in August of last year, never had one so it is an experience, and I'm so glad I had John Boy the cat, when I had to put Jocie down. It helped so much and he does help to feel that void, but I still miss her so. I keep thinking, do I want to get another basset, if I did I would go thru rescue again, I know that. It just seems that a cat is so independent, but I do love him. You take Mark. Thanks again. Gwen
