I just finished this project I have been working on for some time. It is a digital clock, using obsolete Nixie tubes, a kind of neon numerical display tube. For timekeeping is counts the 50 Hz pulses from the mains. It uses an ATmega8 microcontroller for everything.
But since it is made of plywood I will not let it run unattended until I have checked that everything is working safely, so it won't start a fire.
The tubes are not visibly flickering, it is just the digital camera's framerate interfering with them.

In the video I first set the alarm to 22:45, then it goes off and i turn it off. I then show how the time is set.
The tubes are IN-12B, digit height 18 mm if I remember. The digit 5 is an upside down 2 (so they don't have to make another digit), which is why it looks a little weird. This was apparently common on Russian tubes.
Awesome! I LOVE those things!
