What it means is that someone who isn't serious about a skill won't fail because they don't travel outside of their comfort zone, whereas someone who is a serious(a professional) will push outside of their comfort zone and reach failure.

Kind of like running until you can't run anymore. A guy who runs until he's tired won't improve. A guy that runs until he can't and pukes his guts out, he reaches failure, and will improve.

He meant what he said. Throughout the video the instructors are constantly having the students get to their failure point. Chris and Travis are always giving the students a new factor to deal with. Amateurs will shoot the target and be satisfied . Professionals will shoot the target. Then shoot the target and reload then reengage. Then shoot the target reload shoot it while moving to cover. Constantly getting to their failure point constantly over coming and moving to the next
