Circle b Bar Reserve is only a short 50 miles for Kissimmee Birders in Central Floirda. Summer birding at Circle B Bar Reserve is amazingly diverse. Black-bellied whistling ducks greet you as your first enter the marshes of Circle B Bar Reserve this summer. If you have not heard them previously, you will most certainly stop and take notice their 'whistling'. You are guaranteed a smile upon hearing the whistle.
Black-bellied whistling ducks are unlike true ducks in several ways. First the pairs bond for the long-term. Their nests will be in tree holes and behavior is different from the true ducks as both sexes incubates the eggs. The young Whistling-duck will stay with both adults until it is able to fly, unlike others which may be abandoned by parents within the first few days.. See http://bit.ly/TheBirdingSpot

  • A superb documentation of the species. There are 4 on my lake at this moment. I will attempt to film them. I am in central Texas. These 4 birds are out of range, but have been here before.

  • I just love the sound of the whistling ducks. I could listen to them over and over!
