How to hack your Nextar (W3G) GPS System to install another Navigator Program

How to hack the Nextar W3G Auto GPS system in order to install another navigation program on it such as TomTom. The one you see in this video has been loaded with TomTom Nav.

These instructions might work for other Windows based GPS systems as well although I have not tested it.

DO NOT ATTEMPT unless you're comfortable with this sort of stuff....you may brick your device. I hold no responsibility.

for my method: replace the address with explorer.exe
(I've created a registry file to do this...read blow)

but backup the original address first.

This is IMPORTANT: Always backup anything that you are modifying

make sure your windows folder has those startup, documents ....folders before you point the shell addresses to them.

OK,

open the CERegEditor and save the registry file on your computer so you can have a backup.

connect the device - make sure active sync is running - open the CEregEditor program - press F1 - select the hkey_local_machine folder - click edit then export

save the file to your desktop.

extract the registry file to ur desktop

in the CEregEditor click on edit - Import - select the registry file you extracted to your desktop

Everything should be written in the registry so you won't have to create any registry entries

I put another version in a 7" screen gps..it start and work correctly but a cant have the map full screen. map is about 1/4 of the screen. any idea how tu make it work full screen.

program was originaly working on a 5" screen

That's why, off the top of my head....no, I'd have to play around with it and the settings. Every program has one file that dictates resolution and other parameters. Just like games...you change that and you got cheats!

No, you must download tom tom put it in and then edit your registry to load the tom tom automatically

I already did this, and then I messed up with the controls with passwprd and then I tryed to use it in the next boot, but it will only say " Welcome to Windows CE"but I can' enter to the desktop. what can I do??

OK, so I followed every thing up until about 5min. 30 sec of the video where you say "after you find the software you set it up on your device???" Don't know what to do here. Tried entering the residentflash\navigator...ect. into the Launch 50 thing as directed...do I perform soft reset at this point? Because I did and then the GPS wouldn't work. I went back and re-entered explorer and so now I am stuck at this last step. Do I download software or just type in the TomTom code you gave. ?????

I done this to a nextar s3 and it worked. It now boots windows ce. I can run the default program just by clicking it. Question , can I copy the flashcard to a 4 gig and have several to select from? Great Hack man thats the shit:)

I would but I no longer have that GPS as I gave it away. Now I'm on Magellan and these are not that easy to hack.
