Me playing some examples from Gavin Harrison´s (Porcupine Tree drummer) classic drumset book "Rhythmic illusions", a great drumset book dealing with displacement , metric modulation and other nice things!

  • the play along sucks.... guitar and bass are on different note.

    I can't stand it!

  • @harrypar1 Maybe you mean to say they are in different Keys? To me it sounds nice, but maybe I´ve listened to too much jazz....

  • Excellent demonstration ! I just have one question, where can I find such play alongs ? Did u make these ? or are they from Tommy Igoe's Groove Essential Package ?

  • @CharbelSalem

    Thank you =)

The answer is... Both. I made some loops in Logic and used a groove from Igoe´s book.

    Take care!

  • Nice man...you sound great. Really fascinating stuff. How do I get started working on this? Seems like you're at a point where you "hear it" well enough to just do it on the fly. How did you get there?

    Thanks a lot!

I don´t know of any shortcuts or secret methods, I guess the thing is with these kind of exercises is to work on getting your subdivisions right and after working a lot on the specific types of exercises getting to know how they "feel" and sound, it´s only a matter of focused repetition in my book.

    All the best!

  • 00:53 I like it ;)

  • @hospitory yes, I must improve my english, that's what I meant.... but realy the first part is way too much for my ears..... btw as regards the drum part, you've done amazing job. realy nice!

  • so there is effectively just a 7/8 measure played that leads into continuation of the 4/4 for the first groove?
