this piece was originally supposed to be composed by Hans Zimmer, but he referred Disney to his friend Gavin because he was too busy with other projects. as much as I love Zimmer's work, he simply could not have written this as well as Gavin did. I'm a long time composer, and I agree, this is one of the best orchestral pieces written in modern time

Probably the most emotional and inspiring piece of music I've ever heard. The composition was used for ABC-TV's marathon millennium coverage on New Year's Eve 1999-2000 and won Greenaway an Emmy. The piece is already out of this world, but from 8:00 to the end, it's knocked into the upper stratosphere...wow.
