  • I saw this play 4x on Broadway with my parents and have the original soundtrack. I was 11 in 1972. Never thought id see it again except in my memories. YouTube ROCKS!

  • She KILLED that final note... in FULL... VOICE!! Tony Award-worthy... 'nuff said!

  • @2:33 is a revolution. Brilliant performance - including the ending!

  • I saw the actual play, "Purlie" with the very wonderful Melba Moore in it.

When I saw her singing, she actually squatted down lower and lower as her voice got higher and higher. That performance was electrifying and I was just a teenager when I saw and heard this dynamo, and I never forgot her. Why she didn't become very famous is a wonder to me.

  • She is amazing!

  • I met her one night backstage during a telethon and she was absolutely the most wonderful person as well as an incredibly talented woman.

  • melba actually is a soparano able to belt the upper register difficult and athletic and always a showstopper

  • yes i felt like that after seeing streisand sing my man in funny girl at amovie house in chicago the show was so long it had an intermission but the end made me shake . i saw melba do this particular performance live on televison and was knocked out by it

  • My dad took me to see Pearlie. This was the first musical I’d been to see. When Melba Moore finished this I could not breathe.
