The Golden Dawn hailed from Austin, Texas, forming in 1967.Bandleader,George Kinney and Roky Erickson had grown up together in South Austin, attending the same school and playing together in The Fugitives.George then played in the band The Chelsea together with Powell St John and Benny Rowe.
I used a blown-up photo of George taken from The Chelsea line-up throughout the video.
The Golden Dawn line-up was
George Kinney (voc, guitar),Tom Ramsey (lead guitar), Jimmy Bird (rhythm guitar),Bill Hallmark (bass), Bobby Rector (drums)
Bill co-wrote this track with George which closes the Power Plant album. It is gentler and more introspective than the rest of the album,'This Way Please' excepted.Just a beautiful song.
It is a remarkable album which, like 'Forever Changes',works from the first note to the last.Start playing it at any point and it's 'golden'.Simply all tracks are best tracks.
Thanks George and your colleagues for the pleasure this albu has given me over the years.

Really glad you liked it! The words are 'simple' yet very profound. Thanks. :)

  • Perfect; it's added to my playlist :)

Thank you for your interesting and insightful observations.Fascinating.

This is a cd upload but I do treasure my vinyl copy and it sits happily with its friends.

The album has affected me more than any other album, other than 'Piper' and 'Forever Changes' and I never cease playing it.The tenderness in George's voice here and the song itself, is as powerful an experience as ever I have had.

    It is an extraordinary album!!

    Bless you freqazoidiac

  • You mention the likeness of Barrett. So true, this comes through as a thread that is connected through the psychedelic moods I'm sure!

one of the great subversive acidic poetic groups of yesterday.

One of my favs. One thing, just trivial, I would like to know the numbers of

who actually bought and "GOT" this album when it was new in stores, or who

just proceeded to post the cover on their wall and use the vinyl as ash-tray..oh

and to hear the stories of how it might have affected people.

  • So true.We just have to love the one album they have and consider what might have been.

In some of the photos in the video, George looks so like Syd Barrett its uncanny.

  • Man this is such an awesome band, they should've made more albums
