Part of becoming a good player is falling on your face occasionally. Once, on tour in Switzerland with the funk-rock-rap group Liquid Hips, our other guitarist, seasoned funkster Bill Bickford, couldn't make the last gig. In a classic act of 24-year old hubris, I offered to take it.
Bill's show-stopping solo funky rhythm break on the last tune would usually have everyone on their feet getting crazy on the dance floor.

Of course, when I started playing, it seemed to signal a mass exodus from the dance floor. I broke out in a cold sweat and learned a very important lesson: just because you think you can play something doesn't mean you can.
