I bought a 2008 Bavaria 34 Cruiser a little over a year ago. Has everything on it with dual water tanks, deep keel, big batteries, solar and radar. Beautiful boat although I don't drive it as hard as yours. Currently moored at WMYC.
You can't beat waterline length when it comes to rough seas, so I would say that the 36 is the better boat. Wouldn't buy a new one. Looks too much like a Bene or a Jean on the inside. Keep sailing to windward, Brett.

Do you use the standard Selden reefing system ( slab or single line reefing ) that comes with the Bavaria or have you upgraded the rig to handle the conditions?

Damn keen sailing.
No doubting the Bavaria's capabilities for heavy air sailing.
Good job tacking solo too.
Good boat.

Sorry as realised I didn't respond to below ... rig is standard and so is single-line reefing systems ... I did upgrade the purchase on the vang to a stupid 48:1 which works well ... and also the halyards to spectra 10mm jib and 12mm main .. I do balance and check the rig regularly though but rigging is original from 2002 .... ... Do you have a Bav34 as I wanted one of these originally and only by chance got a 36 due to a deal .... ? .. reckon they would be better than the 36

Yer mate .. I don't know too many yachts that you can sail in these sorts of breezes to windward and once balanced I can let go of the helm and eg check the plotter and know that it will keep tracking and self-adjust to gusts and even waves ... no autohelm needed which can fight the yachts natural balance and risk dropping the rig ... love it !
