  • do you let the layers underneath dry first or just continue painting over them

  • @Nutto666 I start with a very thin mixture of turpentine and paint; this partially dries very quickly. Then, successive layers have more linseed oil, and stand oil (partially evaporated linseed oil) so they are thicker and closer to being dry. This way, the layers blend somewhat, but also can stand on top of each other without blending. It's an old technique, you can look it up. Good luck!

  • thanks for your kind comments. I use a variety of greens, seldom straight out of the tube--In general, colorwise, I would say I was not really successful. One note: Part of the artificial look of the greens is due to video color temperature differences...it's a whole 'nother art to get the white balance really accurate, and I just use my laptop's built in camera, which leads to some weirdness.

  • I think less about the product, the actual painting, than I do about the process of painting...I love creating the piece itself, then usually go through a stage of hating the final, then liking it--sometimes I'll put away a painting I like a lot, and when I stumble across it, think less of it, likewise, sometimes I hate one, then months later find I kinda like it. the main thing is: have fun with it!

  • WOw so beautiful. like it. Did u use Linseed oil? or just colors? thx.

  • Yeah, I start very thin, lots of turp and linseed, then get progressively thicker... you might want to look into stand oil (evaporated linseed oil, very thick for your final layers.

  • @kinghasizume Umm that is code for "wow I really like it"

  • Very nice

  • What's interesting is that you're using a watercolor technique (adding blacks last) while doing oils. This confused me at first. Better late than never. Most oil painters lay in a lot of dark and then add highlights. I like to anyway, otherwise I get confused.

  • Wow that's an amazing painting! I'm trying to paint a forest scene but i highly doubt it will turn out as brilliant as this :)

  • You are Inspiring. I'm a beginner painter and I'm really trying to get the basics laid down!!!

  • Excellent video, you worked it up beautifully - thanks for a real learning experience

  • 勉強になりました

  • Amazing work, I find your video helpful as I'm currently doing my second year of Art for A-levels.
