Wonder when they filmed the tram scene, even if it was out of season in Blackpool, the streets and prom would have been absolutely heaving cos it's always busy, and they'd have had to halt the traffic or close part of the road to set up the scene. There must have been hundreds of onlookers. Barbara's awards for this storyline were richly deserved, some of her finest work. Superb actress.

This was when Corrie was unmissable.

· Wow I watched this only the night before and now that I'm starting to sober up a bit it makes me see how much these episodes lingered with me this afternoon. When my friend ordered me to get in her car or else she'd ring my parents (who she's barely acquainted with) and why when the local councillor said she'd ask the pub keeper to ban me I would've whimpered Bet's name, forgetting she's not real and thinking she's my only remaining friend who I can trust.

I thought Bet was so gorgeous in this episode, and loving her warm friendship with Rita. I don't know why I've got so fond of her, yesterday morning and the night before I didn't know her name and had never seen or heard of her before, but was really shocked when she got trapped in the fire and have researched and watched lots of episodes since. She's been in many of them, like a Sim I've kept for a long time. I guess she reminds me of different people and cats I've loved and mostly lost.

@rosebankross Alan stayed around on the Street for months after Rita had had him arrested. She was constantly in fear. Then he went missing and the police thought she'd killed him. This drove her to the edge.
-
@FatknackerMacca Rita did say when she was rescued from the Kabin "What is it with me and trams?", which made me laugh.

holy shit, it's steve at my age
I remember this episode well, and the freeze frame on Rita for the end credits. What had caused Rita's breakdown? Was it something to do with a break in at the shop?

@rosebankross No. The incident between her and Alan kept bringing back memories of her previous husband Len
