Actually now that I've got an @Me after a year. What I've seen watching Macca and seeing descriptions of the technique--it's more of a fingerpick and then right hand index strum to do the completely original version. As far as I can tell it's not so much pristine fingerpicking when you reach the stasis chords, eg the 12 fret. It's clean fingerpicking on the 10ths and then the index strumming almost pick-like albeit with the thumb still active too.

But don't hung up. Just play the thing .

@makitfunkee check out my Blackbird Rhythm video. Obviously some rhythm hand work. This is, in fact, not right (although it still sounds great), and hopefully my post actually DOES correct the strumming :) (not that it needs correcting, but I just liked learning it)

Okay, so the fingering is, in fact, wrong, which doesn't keep it from being lovely! But if you want some insight into the the correct rhythm, check out my Blackbird Rhythm video. If I say so myself, its actually pretty helpful, and it really is a cool way to play. Have fun - that's the whole point!
