this performance is wayyy too slow. It's supposed to be about a girl dancing herself to death. I don't hear that passion at all. just sort of sounds like they're playing it through very monotonously

depends on the way you see it. personally this is one of the few interpretations I realised the beauty of each line making sense for the whole piece. Harmonies and rhythms are so expressive in that tempo you can even taste them!

It certainly seems like it. It's definitely got a....well, a perverse sound to it, which makes sense because its intention is to sound perverse.

But you have a point, this is a very lugubrious and 'monotonous' performance!

No one dances herself to death until the final Danse Sacrale, 20 minutes after this clip. This clip starts with daybreak as the sun rises (Introduction) and then the daytime Spring Dances begin - Dances of Adolescent Girls, the Ritual of Rape, Spring Rounds, Games of the Rival Tribes, the Appearance of the Sage and his Procession, and finally a Dance to the Earth. Thus endeth Part I.
Part II features the night-time rituals, ending with the Sacrificial Dance.
