my mom just bought one of these for me as a surprise. i had been telling her that i planned to buy a new all-solid mahogany guitar. so, not understanding guitar-speak, when she saw his infomercial selling a mahogany (finish) guitar, she thought it was exactly what i would want and bought it. i don't know when she bought it or if it's too late to return yet, but i wanted to know if these guitars are any good at all? or should i definitely try to make her return it? thanks.

Please ask her to return it. They are not very good instruments, and that makes it incredibly difficult to learn. I would suggest even buying a decent good used Yamaha..or any of the better known brands over these Esteban guitars.

They are difficult to tune, and then they do not stay tuned, even with top grade strings..Sry. Part of the reason I posted this was to show how crappy they sound, even with good strings and fairly decent playing.

Nice playing, but obviously you didnt listen to Estaban in the first vid where he mentions placement of you thumb should be around the middle not extending.

I bought an Esteban' guitar also, some years ago. From what I have read there are different manufacturing runs, some just terrible, others okay. I got a decent one, in fact it has beautiful tone, the problem is the action is just too high and it kills my fingers, they hurt for days after I play. My lesson was on VHS, not too good, clueless camera work and he's not a good teacher. Only four songs, and just partially! WTF? I finally bought a Yamaha FG700S, around $200 online, MUCH better!

The Esteban DVDs are quite good. He does tell you to improvise but does not show you exactly how to in them. The video poster is playing some scale patterns..which you can learn from other courses. I love the Esteban DVDs and the songs in my opinion very beautiful and reasonably well taught. Like any course there are strengths and weaknesses. Beautiful songs and useful skills but weak on theory.

@DANizDAN there is a big difference between being a guitar player and making sounds come out of a guitar . I don't mean to offend anyone but i just don't consider that knowing a few or even many songs means that you can truly play guitar . It's more about how you play the instrument and understanding how it works. Esteban is a great player , I admit . Try searching for Vicente Amigo on you-tube as well . What's the thing you observe ? ( excepting the fact that he's damn good ) .

@Onfire79 Not that you have to spend over $1000 for a guitar, but the more you spend, the better the quality, better tuners, better playability, and better sound. I had a piece of shit Mitchell that had high action, DECENT sound, and never stayed tuned.This made it difficult for me to even wanna play and learn guitar. My newest acoustic cost over $2000 and I love it and I play it every day. But yeah, there are people who spend money and could care less.But its better to have a better instrument.

Look, if you wanna buy a Chinese piece of shit guitar, go for it. Just make sure after you are done playing it, wash your hands - you don't wanna get lead poisoning.

His guitars are made in China for $5, check video by MarkHorseman. They are made by hand,probably by 1000 Chinese on one guitar. Make sure you wash your hands after playing on this crap, cause paint is toxic (remember chinese toys and milk?)!

You should keep it as a kickaround guitar. If you travel and want to take a guitar with you, or if you go to a beach or when you're camping or anywhere it would be subjected to rough humid environment - you take an inexpensive guitar like this. I would not bring my Taylor or my Martin or Gibson unless it's for a jam or a gig.

anyone that knows anything about guitars knows that estaban's guitars are nothing but garbage, if you notice on his commercials he tries to convince people like mothers and grandparents that this would be the perfect gift for their special someone or he also preys on people who are wanting to learn how to play guitar but know anything about them, he focuses on those types of people because he knows a real guitarist wouldnt waste his money on a piece of crap

@csason don't hurt your Mothers feelings. You can always buy another guitar but keep the one she bought you.
