With nets in hand my fiance and I dropped "The General" (our red devil...as if you are interested in big cichlids and didn't already know The General) into the Trimac tank. As you can see, the first minute or two "The General" is a bit iffy, it's not his tank, and he's not familiar with the territory. But after a moment or two of the Trimac trying to assert itself, "The General" grows a pair and starts to claim the tank...at which point we scoop him out before a single bit occurs. We also got some amazing pics while they were together. We like to put them together for a moment or two for photo ops' but thats about it. Can't have one of my boys actually hurting the other.

Oh, and please, just watch and enjoy. No nasty comments of "How could you do that, what if one lost a scale". Honestly, I don't want to hear it. Unless your last name is Rapps, Wessel, or Loiselle, (or you go by the screen name Aquamojo) please don't lecture me on fishkeeping. They all have their own big tanks. Just happen to spend a few minutes together for photo shoots now and then.

  • Lots of comments here. Rhombs are nasty, I'll give ya that. Umbees are insane, and neither of these fish could handle one. If those are not true trimacs, then the entire cichlid world has some discussions to have with the "Cichlid God" Jeff Raps of Tangled up in cichlids. If you got your "Trimacs" from a pet store, please don't tell me that mine are not the real deal. Rapps knows cichlids, pet smart doesnt...the end.

  • It's true, "The General" doesn't truly own the tank in this vid, I had to remove him before my babies actually got hurt, but it does not take long for him to size up other fish and decide that he's not going to cower/back down. The General (the RD/midas) is now 4-5 years old and still has that beautiful color. He has a 55 to himself, but could kind of use a 75 gal now. The trimacs sold for good money, ran out of room for tanks. Pirhanas are wimps and would die quick, as many pointed out

  • wow! u get a 5!

    how long r ur trimacs???

  • 9" or so, maybe 10" now.

  • @fishkeeper456 they are a different species of fish red devils are more aggressive then midas and they have more wide range of coloration there lips are a lot bigger as juveniles to

  • @JohnTap123 the only difference between *midas* an *red devil* is the location there found in.... where i am from you see them both i never realy see a difference between the 2...
