The illiterate Mughal was in many ways ahead his time encouraging arts as poetry, picture, religious freedom of speech between the Jesuits the muslims and the Hindus. What was missing from an educated man from today? Less violence and less wifes. So film is giving him this extra as a recognition for all his other qualities. It is nice to think that if someone had the courage to oppose him, maybe instead of a 5000 wifes harem he would have had only one.

@moynul123 Divorce didn't happen back then. At the beginning of the movie, Jodhaa tells you. According to Hindu customs, marriage is a bond of seven lifetimes. Divorce isn't socially acceptable even now in India.
