Pop quiz: if you grew up in the '80s, what, most likely, was a Thursday night tradition in your house?
Answer: Watching Family Ties.
It is Family Ties, and the introduction of Alex's first real girlfriend Ellen Reed in the show's fourth season (1985-86), that started making me the hopeless romantic I am today.
So I decided to make a video about the first TV couple to capture my heart, Family Ties' Alex P. Keaton and Ellen Reed, played by Michael J. Fox and Tracy Pollan, who will celebrate their 20th wedding anniversary one week from the date this video was originally posted.
All clips are taken from the two-part season 4 episode "The Real Thing," and the complete fourth season of Family Ties will be available on DVD on August 5, 2008.
Thank you, Alex and Ellen, for starting me on the road to being a hopeless romantic. And happy 20th anniversary, Michael and Tracy. May you be blessed with many, many more.

Actually growing up in the 80s thursday night tradition was going to whatever Peter Gatien club was "in" that year and doing enough coke to kill a rhino and end up schwacked out of your mind in a trannies living room in brooklyn the next morning.

The chemistry between Alex and Ellen was the REAL deal for sure. Even though they were acting we could all tell it was real even on the set. No denying destiny. When it really happens it is almost magical. Febwriter, thanks for sharing this video and music with us. Good job!

this video is amazing on so many levels. it is amazing that they actually got married and had 4 beautiful kids together. even more amazing, tracy stuck by michaels side through everything...he is so lucky to have her. not many people would stay with someone even though they are sick and disabled. this is true love and they are an inspirational couple.
