While playing with my iPhone I came across an App called iMotion which allows one to create time-lapse movies. I printed a bunch of sheets that I then colored to make a short movie about our fishing-line model of axon development. Usually, axons grow by being pulled by a growth cone, a special migratory structure at their growing end that sense the environment and guides the lengthening axon along developmental paths. In our model, based on our research on a pair of C. elegans neurons, we explain how some axon trajectories can form in the absence of a growth cone.
