Daniel Marques is a professional Brazilian guitar player. He was born (in 1979) and lives in Rio de Janeiro. He excels both at the electric and acoustic guitar. He has developed his own rhythmic and energic style strenghtened by percussions.
The abundant bagage of rhythms in his music consists of developed variations of traditional as well as modern rythms like maracatu, frevo, choro, samba, bossa-nova, baião, afoxé...
Daniel has studied with two Brazilian guitar luminaries Turibio Santos and Marco Pereira. He teaches the guitar at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) and is at the moment pursuing the Master..s degree in the same university with a thesis on performing and acompanying frevo - music style tradidionally associated with carnival in Northeastern Brazil.
Daniel is also the bandleader of the first "frevo" group in Rio de Janeiro: FREVO DIABO. During the last years the young guitar player has often performed jazz music with the "UFRJAZZ big band".
In 2002 Daniel gained the young soloist award "Maestro Eleazar de Carvalho for an outstanding performance of the "Concerto for Guitar and Orchestra" by H. Villa-Lobos.
He has performed as a soloist with several Brazilian symphony orchestras, as well as with top Brazilian artists.
Daniel is a versatile player who works with many styles of classical and popular music. He has also played with pop, rock and reggae bands in Brazil.
