the actress playing Lady Catherine does a wonderful job. As the scene progresses she increasingly turns into a smelly old wimpering lapdog. It's really difficult to be both imperious and defeated.

Argh! I want to kick Lady Catherine in the mouth! *sigh* But this rendering, however, does great justice to Ms. Austen's work. Her characters are so colorful and genuine.

if Lady Catherine's and Elizabeth's scene happened here in the Philippines, and the rich one has greatly insulted the rich one, the poor neighborhood would probably stir and rush to give that lady a damn. it's really degrading to know the fact that you are poor and even have it to say in your face. the rich and poor have equal rights, and the rich have not the least right to do that kind of stupid manners to anyone.

What I still can't understand is how did Lady Catherine find out about Mr.Darcy's proposal to Elizabeth... I supose that Mr.Colins told her but how did he knew???

Rich and poor is a relative condition. Someone Middle Class is considered rich by someone in poverty. The US govtt considered 70,000+ a year as rich. You miss my point - if these were 2 MIDDLE CLASS PEOPLE today, the confrontation probably would have been a screaming using the "F" word. I can even see the police being summoned. Rich or poor does not make you civilized, character does - and I still contend this confrontation today would have become violent. We are animals in comparison.
