Augmented Chords in Music refer to the sharpened fifth interval (#5) in the chord (or even in a scale)

Using C as the example:
C = C E G
Caug = C E G#
C7 = C E G Bb
C7aug = C E G# Bb

An augmented chord can be written out as "#5" or "aug". So these two chords would be played the same:
Caug = C#5

To sharpen a note is to move it up a half step.
