Young Garter Snake Eating Live Leech (They battle it out)

I figured out that garter snakes LOVE leeches. So much so that they were willing to hunt them and eat them right in front of my camera. They are normally afraid of me and my camera, often freezing in place whenever they see me. But these leeches are so irresistable to them that they didn't even care that I was there. It was difficult to film as the cage they are in isn't so accessible but I did my best.

Nice video and beautiful garter snake, we have a lot of those roaming in my apartment but I haven't managed to catch one yet even though i've seen them plenty of times but at around like 0:38 - 0:40 why was the snake breathing so hard like that? i remember when I was in a pet store and a baby red-tail boa was sitting like right in front of it's enclosure but as I got close it started breathing heavely but why do reptiles do that?

Ha thanks. I think I was using more a descriptive language than scientific, as thier bodies are kind of flat but I understand what you are saying. There are flatworms and annelids etc. Sorry for any confusion.
