Flutist Jonathan Brahms, violinist John Daverio and pianist Elizabeth McCrae perform the Pastoral for Flute, Violin and Piano by Hendrik Andriessen (1892-1981) in the Bruno Walter Auditorium at the Library of the Performing Arts at Lincoln Center on December 7, 1982 in New York City. The composer, who bravely refused to cooperate with the Nazi occupiers of Holland during WW II, was seized and held by them from July -- December 1942 when he was released. The bittersweet Pastorale, grief-laden yet optimistic, was composed in 1942 during his internment or prior to it.
