Oil prices fell yesterday after a government report showed that the nation's crude oil supplies rose more than expected last week. At the pump, meanwhile, gas prices rose more than 3 cents overnight, a jump that could be a prelude to a much bigger price spike this spring.
Starbucks Corp. (SBUX) has laid off 220 employees who worked in field operations and at the coffee retailer's headquarters in Seattle. It will leave about 380 open jobs unfilled. Chairman and Chief Executive Howard Schultz announced the 600 job cuts Thursday in an e-mail to the company's more than 170,000 employees.
