A dollar like this really lacks dignity. It would be bad enough if the US government was producing this to cash in on an American tragedy, but outsourcing it? Seriously? How Unamerican can you get?

I hope I wasn't as distasteful as the commercial.

  • Haha, yes, I've actually seen this commercial and I laugh every time. This is pathetic. If you listen closely it's totally bullshit. Drives me crazy.

  • It's on the History Channel all the time. It was funny to think about for a while, but now I'm just tired of seeing it. I wonder how many people have actually bought it...

  • Considering that it costs them almost nothing to mass produce those, paying $20 instead of $39 isn't much of a deal anyway. To make each of those probably costs a fraction of a cent. It's just a way for them to make money off of a tragedy and you're just helping them by buying it. It's not a reminder of the tragedy, but of how greedy society is.

  • Shouldn't people know by now you don't EVER buy anything from infomercials??

  • As of 1-13-09 20 Liberian dollars equaled 31 U.S. cents. Just so you know...

  • Thanks for pointing this out! Was about to buy six of these and giveto my dfamily

  • Interesting video. I did some research & I found out that 20 Liberian dollars is only worth about 32 cents in US money! So what you're paying for is basically a silver-plated piece of paper.

  • Actually, the value of the bill is probably around $2 or so, if you factor in the few cents the bill is inherently worth and the buck or two the nearly pure silver leaf is worth. I do agree, however, these are crooks with no senses of dignity, honor or respect. They were actually once under investigation by the New York attorney general's office for an unrelated scam.

  • all their collector's item commercials are like that- the commercials have something you find funny about them and then they get annoying when you see them 40 times in an hour!

I can see where people might want it to remember all the people that gave their lives for the cause on that day, but on the other hand, that's why thousands or millions of MORE people DON'T want it!

  • It would be funny just to see the guy carry it to, and around with him in the store.

  • yeah, I know...

Just thought, although highly unlikely, it would be a funny occurrence.

  • You could not spend that money at the grocery store. It is only legal tender in Liberia. So if you want to use it in LIberia you are all set.
