Der "Spanische Marsch" wurde der spanischen Regentin Marie Christine von Spanien gewidmet, die für die Wiener Musik eingesetzt hat. So lud sie auch Johann Strauß nach Madrid ein, dem die Reise jedoch zu beschwerlich war. Stattdessen schickte er die Komposition mit Widmung und wurde dafür mit dem Großkreuz des Isabellen-Ordens ausgezeichnet.
